RE: GPS traffic services

I agree with fotodog and let mine expire also for the same reasons. BarneyWhich service did you have? Sorry but I don't know the name of it. It was the one that came with my Nuvi 760. It was a one year subscription and I found that it was not worth spending money on so when the year was up, I didn't! :B Barney

RE: Reese Dual Cam arm bent again!!!

Well if it is a known fact that the new bars with the V notch can work with the old Std DC in the 1,200# width, then this is good to know. The 600 and 800# new style bars are much narrower and I would not see the problem so much. I was not 100% positive which was why I stated a call to Reese may be needed to confirm unless someone else knew for sure it was acceptable, again in the 1,200# WD bar width. John, You may be entirely correct in the 1200lb bar width. I was posting in regards to the statement tha the old style Dual Cam required the bolt on adapters which I know for a fact to be incorrect. As far as the 1200lb bars being a new item, I think they have been around for quite some time in the trunnion style. I think Reese came out with 1200lb round bars recently though. I have not talked with Reese for some time about the Dual Cam so you might be right on the 1200lb bars being too wide. I agree that another call to Reese is in order on that. I would think though that we would have heard from others that are using those bars if there were a problem. It will be interesting to hear back from Shadows4 when he gets the measurements from his trailer and friend. Barney

RE: To all members of RV.net

Barney, Thanks for the tip, I rarely look there. You are welcome Chuck! I realize there are a lot of members who rarely take a look at the stickies area since they have been there a long time. That is why I started this thread in the regular part of the forum. Looks like my strategy worked!:B The views of the sticky thread have increased considerably. Barney

RE: Reese Dual Cam arm bent again!!!

I believe the new style bars require the new style cams. Nope, it is just the other way around. The new style Dual Cam can only be used with the new style (bend end) bars. It cannot be used with the bolt on adaptors used for the flat bars. I “thought” I read somewhere in the Reese literature that the older standard DC is only to be used with the cam adapters. It is not to be used with the new style V notched WD bar. Sorry John but this statement is incorrect also. The old style Dual Cam can be used with either the bolt on cam adapters OR with the newer style bent end bars. What you probably are referring to is the statement that the NEW style DUAL CAM (HP style) will only work with the newer style bent end bars and cannot be used with the bolt on cam adapters. In other words, the older style Dual Cam will use any kind of WD bars but the HP style will only use the newer style bend end bars. I see nothing wrong with the bars the OP is using on his older style Dual Cam. I think the gouging that we see in the pictures on the cams is probably due to the forces that were placed on the bars when they got bent and not due to any problem with the size of the bars. Barney

RE: Sway Control for 16' Enclosed Cargo Trailer

Most people will tow without sway control when the TV is a 3/4 ton truck. Wow really! I don't need to use sway control with my 3/4 ton... now I'm confused :? Milo, He is talking about a 16' Tandem Axle Enclosed Cargo Trailer, not a full sized travel trailer! Why try to get something started? :R Barney

RE: To all members of RV.net

Times are tough, but we will still enjoy this forum. I just hope that at least most of the ads will be aimed at us RV'ers. Thanks for being the medium for all of us to get together on. As far as I know, the ads will all be for Affinity owned companies and therefor will be directly involved with RVing. From what I have seen so far, they will not be very intrusive, will not interfere with the forum pages, and there will be some good tips for us also. We will find out for sure pretty soon! :B I'm just glad that the forums are important to the company and that they are dedicated to keep them going. Barney

To all members of RV.net

Please note the new sticky post at the very top of the forum. It is from Mike Schneider, the CEO of Affinity-owner of these forums. There will be some changes coming soon in the form of some helpful RVing tips, links to RV related stuff, and some links to advertising in hopes of generating a little income to help support the forums. These will be showing up soon in the right margins of the forums. Barney

RE: Towing MPG

The reason I asked is because a fellow that has a slightly smaller trailer and pulling with a much smaller truck said he got the same milage towing or not. He was claiming 20 mpg both ways. That fellow has a way of really stretching the truth! No matter what size truck or trailer, what he said is not possible in my opinion - especially the part about it being the same whether towing or not! Barney

RE: WDH Load Bar Question

Sorry David but I mis-read your post. I thought you said Nissan does NOT recommend using WD on trailers over 5000lbs. My bad!:S I think if it were me I'd use the 1000lb bars. Barney

RE: Anyone use Ford's Brake Contoller

I don't have one but wish I did! Everyone that I know and have read about that has it loves the way it works. Ford did have a problem early on with them not activating at low speed or some such thing but they have had that fixed that for some time. I am sure you are going to enjoy the way it works!:) Barney

RE: WDH Load Bar Question

The numbers are max 650/6500 lbs with no tow package and 900/9000 with tow package. Nissan does recommend WDH with trailers over 5000 lbs. There is no mention or requirement of a WDH to be used over a specified tongue weight that I have read. It may very well be that Nissan does not say anything about using a WD hitch because the receiver and truck are not designed to be used with one. It there are not two sets of numbers on the receiver, one for weight carrying and one for WD use, then the receiver is most likely NOT designed for WD use and I certainly would advise not doing so. RE: Will the 1200lb Equalizer be okay with this camper?

With an Equal-i-zer hitch, it is not just a matter of changing the bars. You need to get a whole new hitch head also since the bars are not interchangeable like they are on normal WD hitches. I would use the 1200lb bars that you have now. Barney

RE: Reese Dual Cam arm bent again!!!

I think the fact that you only have 4 links under tension is causing the WD spring bars to be too high and close to the trailer A frame. This causes the WD bars to bind up on the cam arms during tight turns, especially if the ground is not level or if you are going over a bump or rise like a gas station entrance. The solution is to put more tilt on your hitch head so the bars slant downward more and you can use more links. Also, the idea of using a ball with a rise shank on it can work but you need to be careful and not get too high. The suggestion to put a new coupler on the bottom of the A Frame instead of the top is a good one also. Member JBarca has addressed this problem in his posts in the second half of this thread. It deals with the HP Dual Cam but the principle and problem is exactly the same as you are dealing with on the older style Dual Cam. You would not gain anything by changing from the older style to the new HP style. Hopefully you will be able to find another arm and then get your rig set up correctly so this does not happen again. The whole key is to get the WD spring bars angled down enough to give clearance so they don't hit the cam arms or mounting bolts during turns. Barney

RE: New electric tongue jack, whats your opinion?

YEP! I bet you'll be using that Atwood manual crank real soon. LOL :) Just kidding. I have had Atwood electric jacks on my last two trailers for the past 12 years and have never had one fail yet! Barney
